Spark: Book 1 (The Heat Series) Page 29

Do you want to do that now? It’s not like we are going to get any wetter than we already are?” Just as she spoke the words, a clap of thunder echoed overhead.

“I would rather peel that dress off and make love to you.” The heat Ava already felt turned into a raging fire. She pushed Xander against the counter and forced his head down to her so she could kiss him. Her fingernails raked against his wet bare chest. He reached down and picked her up in his arms carrying her to the bedroom.

He sat her down on the bed and stood in front of her helping her wiggle out of the wet dress. She pushed his shorts down to his ankles, and he stepped out of them. Her hands circled his girth, and she extended her tongue to lick the tip. He let her play with him as her soft fingers and tongue moved over his length. He pulled away and sat down next to her, pushing the wet hair away from her ear so he could gain access. He sucked on her earlobe and moved to her neck planting small soft kisses along it. She continued to stroke him fast.

“Slowly. I don’t want to come yet.” He wanted to take her standing up. For weeks he had the same fantasy about fucking her against the floor to ceiling windows in his apartment. He couldn’t do that here, but he could take her against the wall. He lifted her onto his lap and carried her to the wall next to the door. At first, she was alarmed.

Without saying a word he pressed her back against the wall and hiked her up above him.

With one hand he positioned his cock at her entrance, and he let her down slowly. She let out a cry as he entered her. She clung tightly to his neck, head back, eyes closed as he used his arms to work her up and down. She whimpered, and he heard her breathing become a pant. She made no sound as she climaxed but he felt her bite into his shoulder. She was almost limp by the time he experienced his own climax, barely holding on to his neck.

“Ava? Sweetheart?” He started to lift her off his still hard cock.

“No, please don’t,” She pleaded with him.

“Are you okay? Did I hurt you?” He carried her to the bed when she didn’t reply. He sat down with their union still intact. She kissed his neck and finally spoke.

“That was just…I don’t know what to say…incredible. You feel so good inside me.”

He felt himself finally going soft and he lifted her off of his lap. “I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

“I want to do that more. A lot more.”

  “Oh don’t worry, we will.”

In the afterglow of their lovemaking, they watched the lightning streak through the darkened sky. Ava played with his hair that was now a sexy mess. She had the worst sex hair, but she didn’t care. All she cared about was Xander. He was all that existed for her at this moment.

After the rain had stopped later that evening, Xander took the steaks out to the grill. Ava had remained in the kitchen to set the table and prepare a salad. She found a container of potato salad in the refrigerator and dished it into a bowl. They enjoyed the rest of the bottle of white wine they had with lunch. When the dinner was finished, Xander asked her if she wanted her next surprise.

“More? How many surprises do you have for me?”

“Sit on the couch, close your eyes and no peeking.”

She did as instructed and heard utensils banging and drawers opening. She grew impatient waiting for him, but she obeyed his request and kept where she was. She finally heard his footsteps as he entered the great room.

“Okay, Ava. Open your eyes.” Her mouth dropped at what he held in his hand. A beautifully decorated birthday cake with; Happy Birthday Ava in purple icing. The candle upon it was the number twenty-four which she would be in a few days.

“Thank you so much. I don’t know what to say.”

He began to sing Happy Birthday a little off key. When he ended the song, he kissed her and placed the cake on the table.

  “Make a wish.”

“I don’t need to wish; I have my wish.”

He protested. “But I will be with you for the rest of your life. Make a wish that you want.”

  She blew the candle out.

“I hope your wish was a good one.” I don’t need to wish. So many years I wished for my life to change, to be different and now it is.

  “It was.”

He handed her a fork, and they both took small chunks of cake. He swiped a bit of icing on his finger and held it to Ava’s mouth. She seductively licked and sucked it off his finger. He felt his cock go into overdrive. The feeling of her soft mouth sucking at his finger was too much.

“I wish you would suck some of that off something else.” Oh, shit did I say that out loud!!

“Pull it out and I will,” she said as she fumbled for the drawstring on his shorts.

  “I was kidding.”

  “I want to suck you.”

She pulled his shorts, and he let her release his cock that was already starting to harden. She held it between her small hands and kissed the tip. He raised his hips so he could pull his shorts down and slip to his ankles. She took him deeper into her mouth using her fingers to encircle the base. He was getting too excited, and he tried to keep in control. Any other woman and he would have face-fucked her by now. But this was Ava, and he was not going to defile her by treating her like a piece of meat. He let her do what she wanted.

He had so many things running through his mind but he wasn’t going to voice them to her. She might think it gross or disgusting. As if reading his mind she stopped sucking him. She looked up at him with her gorgeous green eyes and asked him what he wanted. His mind exploded.

“I want to fuck you doggy style.”

She rose from the couch, leaving a bewildered Xander to watch her. He followed her ready to beg her for forgiveness. But he didn’t need to do that because when he entered the bedroom, she was on the bed, naked and on all fours. His softening cock immediately hardened, and he positioned himself behind her. He slipped one finger into her to make sure she was ready for him, then another. She started to move her hips as he worked his fingers inside her. But he wanted his cock to be surrounded by her tight wetness, and he withdrew them. Sucking on them and tasting her sweetness.

“Now…please…I’m ready.” He slipped the head of his cock inside her and stilled his movement.

  “More, don’t make me wait.”

With one hard thrust, he pushed deep inside her and began to move his hips.

“Fuck, Ava, I still can’t believe how tight you are, I love it.” She smiled as he fucked her. She was shy about talking dirty, but she spurred him on.

“Fuck me harder.” He gripped her hips hard and sped up his rhythm.

  “Touch yourself.”

She reached under and started to rub her hard nub. She moved along with him. He rolled his hips, gyrating them. A rumble of thunder could be heard in the distance as she came. She felt Xander pull out and then thrust back into her. His release was much more climatic than the others had been, with him grunting and yelling her name as he came. He leaned over her back and they both collapsed on the bed. Later, they lay in bed listening to the rain pounding on the roof. They were both naked, and Ava had her head on his chest. She could be content lying here for the rest of her life. No outside influences to disrupt their bliss.

They spent most of Sunday in bed making love only leaving to eat lunch and a late dinner. Ava had become much more aggressive and demanding. It wasn’t a turn-off. He secretly liked when a woman dominated him.

On Monday, Ava awoke with a feeling of sadness. It was back to the city and back to work tomorrow. She would have loved to stay here for another few days or forever. The weather had turned cooler with the rain on Saturday, and they had to dress in jeans and sweaters for the ride back. Xander packed the car, and she did a final check to make sure they had left the house the way they had found it.

The drive home took longer than it did for them to get up to Lake George. Many people were heading back home after the long Memorial Day weekend. Ava played with the radio stopping on several songs she liked and skipping others. Whe
n she landed on a station playing “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel, she changed to another channel.

“Hey, turn that back. I love that song.”

Ava pressed the selection arrow to get back to the station. She watched fascinated as Xander sang along with the song. She had never seen him do that. He laced his fingers through hers as the song played. She tried to commit the words to memory since she had never really paid attention to the song. After it was over, she asked about it.

  “Is that your favorite song?”

“One of them, I have always liked Peter Gabriel, especially his older stuff. My parents used to listen to him when I was a kid and that is how I got to liking him. This song makes me think of you.”

Ava blushed. He had a song that reminded him of her? “What other music do you like?”

“I like a mostly classic rock. It’s what I heard as a kid. I have my iPod in the console if you want to plug it in and listen.” She opened the door to the console. He had a tremendous library of songs, but most of them were classic rock along with a few other genres. She selected “At Last” by Etta James. Her mother used to play that when she was a child. She switched the ring he gave to her on to her left hand before she laced her fingers through his. He heard the clink as their fingers and rings touched. He squeezed her hand to signify his agreement. They were one.

  Chapter 19

Tuesday was slow moving at the office. Everyone seemed to have holiday hangover and had trouble getting started with work. Victoria had worked over the weekend and had several contracts she needed Ava, to complete. She had also asked her to go to the courthouse to file some paperwork with the Land Records Department. Ava hated going to the courthouse because usually what should only take an hour turned into three. There was always a line and with the warmer weather ramping up, so were the sales of property and buildings.

She hadn’t heard from Xander since he dropped her off at her floor this morning. She finished working on the contracts, and her boss added two more requests for her to take to the Land Records Department. At this rate, she would be there all day. She didn’t have time for lunch, and it was nearing one, but she wanted to get this done so she wouldn’t have to go there again tomorrow. The lines were long, and it took her nearly four hours to finish what she needed to at courthouse. She felt like crying, but she knew it was because she had gotten her period that morning which made her overly emotional. She had shut her phone off and when she came out she checked to see if any messages had come through. Finally, she saw a text from Xander he had sent at 3:32.

Ava sweetheart, I have been so busy today. I have to see clients at six, so I am not sure what time I will be home. I left word at the front desk for them to let you into my apartment. I love you. See you later.

I will be waiting for you when you get home. Please try to get home as soon as you can. Love you.

She also had several texts from Sam wanting to know about her weekend and how much sex Ava had with Xander. Ava told her it was wonderful, and she enjoyed it. Sam wanted details, but Ava was not the kind of woman to reveal her sex life. This did not sit well with Sam, who usually revealed everything.

Ava slipped her phone back into her purse and hailed a cab. When she got back to the office, Victoria was just packing up for the day. She handed her the files and replied by telling Ava she was free to leave for the evening.

Ava wanted to see Xander before she left. Most of the staff for the firm had gone home, and she was sure she could slip up to his office without being noticed. She got on the elevator and pressed the button for eighteen. His door was wide open, but he was not there. She was going to close it and settle into his chair, but then she heard something from the alcove.

“Listen, Ashley, it’s going to be okay. Things like this happen all the time. Just take it easy and I’m sure everything will work out.”

She could hear Xander’s voice coming from the alcove where she used to sit. She quietly crept to the corner and peered around. Xander had his arm around Ashley, and she was crying. He was wiping her tears away with his handkerchief. She watched as Ashley tipped her head up and pressed her lips to Xander’s. Ava didn’t wait around to see what would happen next. She hurried to the elevators, tears burning her eyes as she rode to the main floor. How could he? That bastard. Is this what he does with all the assistants?

She looked in her purse for some tissues and saw the ring. She slipped it off her finger and had the urge to throw it across the lobby. He lied to me. This means nothing. She thought as she contemplated what to do with the ring. Instead of disposing of it, she simply dropped it into her purse with the hopes that he had an explanation for his behavior. On the way home, she vomited in a garbage can while waiting for the subway. Nothing came up because she hadn’t eaten all day, a lucky thing because she had the dry heaves all the way home. She wasn’t going to his apartment to wait for him.

Xander entered his apartment late that evening. The clients had insisted they take him out to dinner. He didn’t want to refuse because of the potential financial gain they could bring the firm. After three hours of listening to his clients talk about themselves and suggesting they go to a strip club, he needed to leave. He was disgusted but didn’t want to offend the clients, so he made an excuse of having to get up early the next morning. He called out to Ava, but all he received back was the echo of his voice. She always placed her shoes near the entry closet, but none were there. He went to the bedroom expecting to see her sprawled out on his king size bed. He quickly called her and her voicemail picked up immediately.

“Sweetheart, I thought you were going to sleep over tonight. Where are you?”

He waited seventeen long minutes until she communicated back. It was a short text.

  Didn’t feel like it tonight.

That was it. No, I love you, no terms of endearment in any shape or form. Xander thought he should go over there because it was clear to him that Ava was upset, but what had he done? He was too exhausted to get involved with an argument at this hour, so he decided against going to her apartment. He settled into his bed longingly looking at the side she normally occupied. Sleep came quickly, but he was restless all night.

In the morning he noticed that he had stayed on his side of the bed. Before Ava, he would drift all over the bed throughout the night. Last night he had stuck to his side, not crossing the imaginary border between his and hers. Even in unconsciousness, he knew he was only a part that made up their union to equal one. He got to the office much earlier than normal. He wondered what she was doing and if he would see her today to offer an explanation.

Ava kept checking the clock. 1 AM, 2 AM, 3 AM…at 5 AM, she gave up trying to sleep. It was not going to come she was just too upset. She slowly prepared for her day dreading going to the office. She wanted to call out sick, but she had already taken a few days recently. She still felt nauseous and tried to calculate how many hours it had been since she had eaten. It was now Wednesday morning, and she had last eaten on Monday night. After her shower, she weighed herself and was startled to see that she was ninety-nine pounds. She had lost two more pounds since she was at the doctor almost four weeks ago. She looked in the mirror, and her ribs and collarbone were more pronounced. This isn’t good. I need to eat regularly, or I’m going to get sick.

Her eyes looked sunken and dark circles had formed from lack of sleep. It was becoming a pattern. She wasn’t eating, working out or anything that had to do with good health. How had her life spiraled so out of her control the last two months? The office clock over the reception desk read 6:22 when she entered. A few attorneys were in but none of the office staff; she was the first one. The sixteenth floor was empty. She sat down at her desk and turned on her laptop. There were several junk emails and one from Xander. The subject read: URGENT, PLEASE CALL ME WHEN YOU GET IN. She opened up the email more out of curiosity than caring. She was angry and upset that he would betray her.

  Ava,

Please tell me what I did? I love you so much,
and my bed was empty without you there. Call or text me when you get into work. I want to hear your sweet voice, smell your perfume on my clothes and see your beautiful face.

  Xander

  She replied.

  Mr. Wilder,

If you don’t know what you did then maybe you are just unaware of your actions.

  Ava Keene

As much as it hurt her, she didn’t want to see his face or talk to him. She didn’t have the strength not to break down in front of him. The last thing she wanted him to see was her crying. He didn’t deserve the satisfaction in knowing he tore her down.

Xander heard an email ping on his laptop. He quickly checked and saw that Ava had replied to his email. He was flabbergasted by her response. He had no idea what he could have done, but since the email came from her laptop and not her phone, he knew she was in her cubicle on sixteen. It was still early, but several attorneys were at their desks on eighteen. He hoped that sixteen would still be quiet. He was taking a chance by having contact with her at work, but he wouldn’t be able to concentrate on his work without an explanation from her, good or bad.

He pushed the fire exit door and went down the stairs two floors to sixteen. He had to traverse almost the entire office to get where she was sitting, and he smelled her perfume wafting in the air as he got closer to her. He quietly walked around to her side of the cubicle and put his hand on her shoulder. She wheeled around in her chair startling him.

“Don’t you dare touch me,” she hissed.

“You stay away from me Alexander Wilder. I don’t want you near me,” she angrily whispered so no one else could hear. His mouth dropped open, and he stared at her.

“What did I do? You can’t say that without giving me an explanation.”

She narrowed her eyes at him. “Oh can’t I? Don’t you try to tell me what to do, save that for Ashley.”
